Cowlitz County rescuers saved a 56-year-old man after he was found in his pickup at the bottom of a ravine Sunday morning.
The man was reported missing over five days before the crash, according to a statement from Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue.
Rescue crews responded to the 4900 block of Sunset Way at 9:30 a.m. after witnesses reported a green truck at the bottom of a wooded ravine and tire tracks from the road 150 feet above. Resident’s description of the truck matched that of the missing man’s, officials said.
First responders then discovered the man, who has not been identified, was alive.
Fire crews used ropes to get the man up the steep hill after removing him from the wreckage. Longview Fire Department assisted Cowlitz fire in the hour-long rescue.
The man was ill and severely injured, a statement from Cowlitz fire said. He was taken to a hospital by helicopter.
It’s not clear how long the man was trapped at the bottom of the ravine, or what led to the crash.
