Portland police are investigating a homicide in Southeast Portland’s Buckman neighborhood, the police bureau said in a news release.
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing near Southeast Washington Street and Water Avenue, north of the Morrison Bridge, just after 6:40 p.m. on Sunday and found one man who had died, the news release said.
Police have detained one person in connection with the stabbing and are not looking for additional suspects, the release said. The bureau did not publicly identify the victim or the person officers detained.
Officers closed blocks of Southeast Washington Street and Water Avenue on Sunday as they investigated, and asked anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Detective Shaye Samora at (503)823-0768 or Detective Tony Harris at (503)823-0441.
The man’s death is the 22nd homicide in Portland so far in 2023, compared with 29 by this point last year. Public safety experts are not yet ready to declare a downward trend, however.
