A convicted murderer, who was one of the longest-serving inmates on Oregon’s death row before it was dismantled, died in custody Sunday while on hospice care, the Oregon Department of Corrections announced.
Michael M. McDonnell, 71, was receiving end-of-life care at a hospital while in the custody of the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, officials said in a statement Monday. Department of Corrections spokesperson Betty Bernt said she couldn’t release the cause of death.
