Mookie Cook is no longer committed to Oregon.
The No. 5 overall prospect in the class of 2023, Cook announced he was reopening his recruitment Wednesday night, nearly three months since committing to the Ducks.
“I would first like to say thank you to coach Altman and the entire basketball coaching staff at the University of Oregon for believing in me,” Cook wrote via Instagram. “I am grateful for their support, as well as the fan’s. However, after much consideration and talks with my family, I’ve decided to reopen my commitment. During this time I will weigh other options in addition to the University of Oregon. I look forward to the continued support as I embark on this journey.”
The former Jefferson High School star, now at AZ Compass Prep, chose the Ducks on March 31 over Kentucky and Gonzaga.
The 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward was one of the highest-ranked recruits (No. 5 overall, .9976 in 247Sports Composite) in Oregon men’s basketball program history.
Oregon still has four-star point guard Jackson Shelstad committed to its 2023 recruiting class.
