Multnomah County Library has parted ways with a member of the design team for its east county flagship location in Gresham as allegations have surfaced accusing the member of sexual misconduct.
The Financial Times reported Monday that internationally recognized architect David Adjaye has been accused of sexual harassment and assault. Adjaye has denied the allegations.
On Tuesday, the library — which heralded Adjaye’s inclusion on the project last July — announced Adjaye would not work on the 95,000 square-foot project going forward.
“Adjaye Associates is no longer associated with Multnomah County and the East County Library project,” library spokesperson Shawn Cunningham wrote in an email Tuesday. “Holst Architecture has been and remains the prime architect of record for the building, which will continue through design and construction as planned. The County declines to comment further.”
The New York Times reported Tuesday that Adjaye had stepped away from other roles so as to not serve as a “distraction.”
