Newport’s controversial Mayor Dean Sawyer has provoked a new round of outrage after a news report Friday disclosed racist, violent and hateful memes he had posted for years to a private Facebook group for current and former police officers.
City Councilor CM Hall called on Sawyer to step down and critics are organizing a public protest at Newport City Hall on Saturday, circulating a flyer declaring: “We deserve better!”
