Aaron Rodgers was due a whopping combined salary of $110 million for the final two seasons of his contract. Rodgers and the New York Jets knew that his contract needed to be restructured.
The sides got a deal done, with Rodgers taking a massive $35 million pay cut.
Rodgers has agreed to a two-year contract that is worth a fully-guaranteed amount of $75 million and runs through the 2024 season, according to multiple reports. Rodgers will receive the majority of the money in 2024, perhaps providing an incentive for him to return for a second season in New York.
Rodgers will reportedly receive a base salary of $1,838,888 along with a $35 million roster bonus in 2023. His base salary will be $38,161,112 million in 2024. The deal also reportedly includes a no-trade clause and a no-tag clause.
Rodgers, in his first season with the Jets after spending his first 18 years with the Green Bay Packers, seemed to confirm the new deal on Wednesday.
“The team gave up significant pieces for it to just be a one-year deal,” Rodgers told reporters Wednesday. “I’m aware of that. … Anything could happen with my body or the success we have this year, but I’m having a blast, so I really don’t see this as a one-year-and-done thing.”
