Oregon built a five-run lead that proved insurmountable and extended its win streak to 12 games.
KK Humphreys and Paige Sinicki each homered for the No. 13 Ducks in a 5-3 win over Cal Saturday afternoon at Levine-Fricke Field.
The win, combined with Utah’s loss to UCLA, moves Oregon (34-11, 13-7 Pac-12) into third in the Pac-12 and one game back of second since Washington has the tiebreaker.
Tehya Bird hit an RBI double to put Oregon on the board in the second. Humphreys added a two-run homer in the third.
Sinicki opened the fourth with a solo shot and Allee Bunker (2 for 4) added an RBI single.
Cal (31-16-1, 7-12-1) scored three in the fifth as Stevie Hansen issued a one-out walk and back-to-back doubles before being relieved by Raegan Breedlove.
Hansen (18-4) allowed two runs on three hits, two walks and three hit batters over 4.2 innings. Morgan Scott picked up her sixth save with 1.1 innings of perfect relief.
The teams conclude the series at noon Sunday.
