Four of eight Oregon pitchers allowed runs in a midweek loss that could prove to be an albatross to the Ducks’ postseason resume.
Turner Spoljaric allowed three runs on four hits and two walks in just 1.0 inning and Dylan McShane and Grayson Grinsell each allowed a pair of runs in relief in an 8-5 loss to Niagara Wednesday afternoon at PK Park.
Niagara (6-6), which entered 163 in RPI, got on the board via a sacrifice fly in the first and added a pair via an RBI walk and another sac fly in the second.
Oregon (9-6) got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a Josiah Cromwick single. Colby Shade (4 for 5) hit an RBI double in the third and Gavin Grant led off the bottom of the fourth with a homer to tie it at 3.
Vincent Mauro hit a two-run triple of McShane to give Niagara the lead back in the fifth Cole O’Connor added a two-run single in the sixth to make it 7-3.
McShane allowed two runs on a hit, walk and hit batter in 1.0 inning and Grinsell allowed two runs on two hits and a walk without recording an out. Austin Anderson allowed a run on a hit and two walks in 0.2 IP.
Jacob Walsh and Shade hit back-to-back RBI singles in the seventh to get back within 7-5 but UO left the bases loaded.
Oregon travels to Washington State for a three-game series beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.
