A second Oregon Ducks defensive tackle is no longer on the roster following a season-long foot injury.
Maceal Afaese, who missed all of last season with a left foot injury, has medically retired, according to Oregon coach Dan Lanning.
Fellow former defensive tackle Sua’ava Poti, who missed last season with a right foot injury, joined the coaching staff as a student assistant.
A four-star prospect out of Kapoleo, Hawaii in the class of 2020, Afaese did not play as a true freshman during the shortened 2020 season. He played 22 snaps over the final three games of the 2021 season while redshirting and made one tackle in the Alamo Bowl.
The 6-foot-4, 259-pound Afaese was entering his fourth-year sophomore season. His departure leaves Oregon with 91 projected scholarship players in the fall, including 11 interior defensive linemen, and UO no longer has any fourth-year sophomores on the roster.
