Memorial Day offers local and regional events and ceremonies honoring those who have fallen defending the United States in the armed forces. There are also parades in many towns across the state.
Here’s a list of Memorial Day services, parades, and community events scheduled for the holiday. Also find a list of services and government offices that adjust their hours and schedules for the national holiday.
Public transportation:
TriMet buses and MAX will run on Sunday schedules on Monday, May 29. WES will have no service.
C-Tran will run on Sunday/Holiday schedules on Monday, May 29.
Portland Aerial Tram is closed.
Government offices:
Federal courts and offices are closed.
Oregon and Washington state offices and courts are closed.
Portland parking meters are free on Monday, May 29 only, except in some city parks. Pay during regular Sunday hours.
Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington and Clark county offices, city of Portland and Vancouver offices, Metro regional center are closed.
Postal mail (USPS) will not be delivered Monday, May 29, and post offices will be closed.
Banks: closed, some in-store branches may be open
Libraries: Most public libraries are closed. Check with your local branch.
National cemeteries, including Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, will be open for gravesite memorials, placing of flags or flowers by individuals or groups, and many will have a ceremony to mark the day. To find a more comprehensive list of events near you, visit memorialdayoregon.com

Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs host events around the state to honor the fallen. The event at the State Capitol grounds includes remarks by ODVA Deputy Director Nakeia Council Daniels, veteran leaders, and state dignitaries, along with a color guard ceremony, performance of the National Anthem, and the laying of a wreath followed by the playing of Taps. 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the Oregon World War II Memorial on the Oregon State Capitol grounds in Salem, free; facebook.com/odvavet.
Veterans Memorial Park (Beaverton): VFW Post 124 in Beaverton hosts a ceremony 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, between Seventh and Ninth streets, and Washington and Watson avenues; free. beavertonoregon.gov/442/Veterans-Memorial-Park.
North Plains Veterans Memorial Park: Memorial Day ceremony honors those who have served the country in the armed forces. 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the park, Highland Court and 3313th Avenue; free; northplains.org/parksrec.
Fort Vancouver National Historic Site: The Community Military Appreciation Committee presents this annual ceremony at the Bandstand on the Vancouver Barracks in honor of the men and women who have lost their lives in service of our country. Wilsonville Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony: Specific details were not listed before press time, but generally this event is a commemoration ceremony on Memorial Day to honor and mourn the military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, Town Center Park / Korean War Memorial, 29600 SW Parkway Ave., Wilsonville, free; memorialdayoregon.com.
Prineville Memorial Day Parade: The annual parade travels down Fourth and Main streets ending at the Memorial Park area of Ochoco Creek Park, where there are POW/MIA and Hot Shots monuments. Following the parade, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the Elm Street Bridge across Ochoco Creek. 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, Prineville, free; memorialdayoregon.com.
Klamath Falls Memorial Day: The city offers a sunrise service at 6 a.m. in the Memorial Park Cemetery and a parade at 10 a.m. along Main and Spring streets to Veterans Park. Monday, May 29, Klamath Falls, free; klamathfc.org.
Rose Festival City Fair opens: This year’s Rose Festival officially kicks off with live entertainment, food, rides and more at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Enjoy carnival rides, fair foods, interactive exhibits, and family entertainment including a ukulele jam and sing along, clowns, and costumed characters. Opening night features a fireworks show at about 9:45 p.m. Friday over the Willamette River.

Multnomah County Fair: Multnomah may be Oregon’s most populated county, but its annual fair has more of a small-town vibe. The 117th fair takes place Memorial Day weekend and offers stage entertainment, barn animals, vendors, creative arts and a low-rider car show. One for the bigger draws is the annual wiener dog races. Sunday offers a full day of Hispanic dance, music and singing.

Clackamette Mineral & Gem Show: Ok all you rockhounds, head down to Canby for the annual show featuring dealers, demos, displays and plenty of kids activities.
9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, May 27-28, Clackamas County Fairgrounds and Events Center, 694 N.E. Fourth Ave., Canby; free admission.
