Oregon State distance runner Grace Fetherstonhaugh is the Pac-12′s women’s track athlete of the year, the first time a Beaver has won such an award.
Fetherstonhaugh, a senior from New Westminster, B.C., made history last weekend when she became the first Oregon State athlete to win an event at the Pac-12 track and field meet. Fetherstonhaugh won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000, leading OSU to a seventh-place finish, the highest in school history.
Oregon State has never won a Pac-12 track, field, newcomer or coach of the year honor since the Beavers began competing in Pac-10/12 track and field in 1987.
Fetherstonhaugh won the 3,000 steeplechase and 5,000 at the Pac-12 meet by more than five seconds. A year ago, Fetherstonhaugh finished fourth in the Pac-12 and 10th at the NCAAs in 3,000 steeplechase.
