Oregon State briefly took control and the lead against Arizona State, only to follow with a shooting drought that was its undoing.
The No. 11 seed Beavers made their first four attempts from the field to open the second half and took a 35-34 lead with 17:12 to go, then they missed 10 straight shots from the floor while the No. 6 seed Sun Devils went on a 14-3 run and never looked back — though OSU didn’t lack for opportunities to get back into it.
Glenn Taylor Jr. scored 17 points and Jordan Pope added 12 for Oregon State in a season-ending 63-57 loss to Arizona State in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament Wednesday night at T-Mobile Arena.
The Beavers (11-21) closed by going 5 for 26 from the floor, including 1 for their last 12, and shot just 34.0% from the field, including 17.6% from three on the night. It was the fourth this season OSU shot under 20% from behind the arc, all losses and seventh under 35% from the field.
Warren Washington had 15 points and eight rebounds and DJ Horne and Desmond Dambridge Jr. each had 13 points for Arizona State (21-11), which advances to face No. 3 seed USC in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Sun Devils turned 11 OSU turnovers into 20 points and 12 offensive rebounds into a 14-6 edge in second-chance points.
