Start hydrating now because Tuesday’s warm weather is just the beginning of Portland’s finally-it’s-summer summer.
Temperatures throughout the remainder of the week should remain warm, with highs in the mid-70s to low 80s. But as the weekend approaches, expect things to heat up.
“We really start to warm up Friday into the mid-80s,” said Shawn Weagle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland.
As for the actual weekend, Weagle said, “Both days could be in the 90s.”
Likely, these will be the first 90-degree days in a year that has been thus far notably cool and wet.
If you’re looking to jump into some water when the temperatures rise, don’t forget the cardinal rule of Oregon summer: That body of water is probably colder and deeper than it looks.
Wear a lifejacket, use the buddy system and be careful.
Also, if you want to jump in water that isn’t quickly moving and freezing cold, Portland’s public pools are set to open Wednesday.
The other thing to know about the weekend: “It’s going to be sunny,” Weagle said.
So, reapply that sunscreen at regular intervals. Remember, your skin hasn’t seen sun like this since 2021.
