Portland is, somehow, only the second-best place to bike naked in the United States, according to a study from LawnStarter.
LawnStarter also recently ranked Portland the third overall best city for bicycling in general.
What is LawnStarter? Well, it’s a lawn care company. And when did this study come out? Last year. And yet, the lawn care company sent it out to multiple Oregonian reporters Tuesday, many of whom sent it to me.
We are incensed. We demand a recount!
How is it possible that there is a city in the world, let alone the county, that is better for the naked bike rider than Portland? Portlanders practically bike to work naked, we love biking naked so much. The annual Portland World Naked Bike Ride is one of the city’s top annual events.

And yet, Chicago has been named number one. For a whole year! And we didn’t know about that injustice until now!
According to LawnStarter, Chicago’s top ranking comes from that city’s “popularity” (unclear what that means) as well as the fact that it hosts a World Naked Bike Ride (um, we’re popular and we have one, too!).
Mainly though, LawnStarter wrote, “Chicagoans searched for ‘naked bike ride’ more times in the past 12 months than Googlers in any of the other 199 cities.”
You know what, Chicago? We don’t Google, we ride. In this case, we ride at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, from a starting destination yet to be revealed.
