The Portland area may see a little more snow melt Saturday with mostly sunny skies and a high temperature around 38 degrees, but more snow is expected to fall Saturday night into Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Vancouver and Portland area from 8 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday. There’s a chance of rain and snow before 10 p.m, snow from 10 p.m.-1 a.m. and a mix of rain and snow after that. The snow level will start at about 600 before lowering to about 200 feet. Snow accumulation of 1-2 inches is expected in lower elevation areas while elevations above 500 to 1,000 feet could see up to 4 inches.
Sunday will bring more rain after 10 a.m. with a snow level at about 900 feet. The high will be around 42 degrees. That will help with the snow melt, but “it will be a slow process,” said Colby Neuman, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland. “I don’t think the snow is going away in your yard until probably early next week at the earliest.”
Another system may bring more lowland snow Sunday night into Monday morning, but the weather service says there is much uncertainty about how much snow the system will bring.
