Guyana’s Emanuel Archibald led 14 sprinters who advanced to the qualifying heats of the men’s 100 meters at the World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field.
Archibald posted a time of 10.31 seconds to lead the group during the preliminary stages of qualifying for the event Friday afternoon. The Gambia’s Ebrahima Camara was second in a time of 10.37 seconds, while Indonesia’s Lalu Mohammad Zohri was third in a time of 10.46 seconds.
The top 14 sprinters from the preliminary rounds advanced to the qualifying heats of the event, which are scheduled for Friday night.
U.S. sprinter Fred Kerley, who captured the silver medal in the event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, is expected to compete in the heats. Teammates Trayvon Bromell, Christian Coleman and Marvin Bracy are also expected to compete in the heats.
