Would the Oregon Legislature – both Republicans and Democrats – please put partisanship aside and go back to doing the work we have elected them to do? (“Democrats cite bills at risk amid GOP walkout,” June 7). The Republicans’ extended walkout is reprehensible; in any other job, they would have been fired long ago. But the Democrats’ refusal to even consider amendments to HB 2002 is hardly beyond reproach. They seem to have forgotten that politics is the art of compromise. Allowing all the state’s business to be held up by their refusal to budge on this one bill isn’t helping matters. It’s time for someone in Salem to demonstrate leadership and negotiate an end to this fiasco, the sooner the better. Otherwise, we will all suffer the consequences.
