I wholeheartedly agree that Oregon must confront addictions as part of its homeless strategy, (“Opinion: Oregon must confront addictions as integral part of its homelessness strategy,” Feb. 12). But the op-ed does not acknowledge the role Measure 110 plays in this. That measure is why we have so many addicts.
It was misguided to make legal small amounts of hard drugs. At least when it was illegal you could use the choice of jail or rehab to get a person to stop using. The other, bigger, problem that Measure 110 contributes to is the large amount of drugs coming into our state, along with the hard core dealers who are selling this poison to all these addicts.
I believe there are all kinds of social issues that also have been brought to you by Measure 110 in addition to homelessness – namely violence and theft. I would like to see this misguided measure sent back to the voters, who by now are having to live with the fallout from this measure. This time, vote a resounding no to it and all the problems it has caused here.
