Leading climate cities don’t cut transit service, and they certainly don’t cut bus service. With yet another announcement of cutting critical transit access to thousands of regional residents, TriMet has essentially declared Portland’s new motto to be “Go By Car!” (“Tri-Met to cut service on 10 routes, including new rapid transit bus line,” June 22)
For those opposed to the I-5 expansion, a word of advice: Become a TriMet bus driver. If you’re unwilling to be a bus driver, you’re advocating for freeways, or at least endless congestion and air pollution. The kids at Harriet Tubman Middle School will learn better if they don’t have to constantly hear car horns and idling engines outside their classrooms because our region continues to force bus riders into their cars with no realistic alternative – and no, those bus riders aren’t suddenly going to ride bikes.
