One person was killed and another injured in a shooting Friday night that led to a block-by-block search through a swath of Southeast Portland.
Police said early Saturday that several people were detained during the search, calling them “persons of interest.”
The shooting that set off the search was reported just after 7 p.m. Friday near Southeast Powell Boulevard and 112th Avenue. Police said one person was found dead. Another was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive.
Police said several people tied to the shooting had already left the area but were soon found nearby. They fled as officers approached, police said.
Officers set up a search area that spanned blocks, shutting down stretches of major thoroughfares Powell Boulevard and 122nd Avenue to traffic and pedestrians. Residents were told to stay at home with their doors and windows locked.
The search lasted more than four hours. Southeast 122nd Avenue remained closed into Saturday morning.
Police did not say whether the people detained during the search had been charged in the shooting. No one had been booked on shooting charges tied to the incident as of 8 a.m. Saturday, according to Multnomah County jail records.
