Slovania’s Krisjan Ceh continued his breakthrough year by adding another victory to his impressive resume.
Ceh struck gold in the men’s discus with a championship record throw of 233 feet, 4 inches (71.13 meters) Tuesday night at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene. The 23-year-old destroyed the record with three attempts remaining in the final.
Lithuania’s Mykolas Alekna and Andrius Gudzius finished behind Ceh in second and third place, respectively. Alekna recorded a toss of 227-3 (69.27m) and Gudzius finished at 221-7 (67.55m).
Ceh made the final after posting a throw of 223-10 (68.22m) in Sunday’s qualifying round.
Sam Mattis was the only member of Team USA to qualify for the finals and finished 11th with a best throw of 207-3 (63.19m).
