There are whispers and rumors of warm sunny weather heading Portland’s way by next week. But we’ll have to get through this wet weekend first.
Portland will see spotty showers Friday with much of any rain falling after about the lunch hour. Skies will be cloudy all day, and the high will be near 53 degrees.
The National Weather Service says this warm front will help to raise snow levels above about 4,000 feet keeping pass roads fairly clear for much of the weekend.
A front will brush by southwest Washington and northwest Oregon overnight and into Saturday morning giving Portland another chance of rain to kick off the weekend. A weak ridge of high pressure may help keep showers at bay in the afternoon. Skies will be cloudy, and the high will be near 62 degrees – fairly warm when considering how cold it’s been all week. The weather service says areas in the southern Willamette Valley may see even warmer temperatures. Eugene has a good chance of hitting 68 degrees.
Another wet system moves into the region on Sunday bringing more chances of rain to Portland. Skies will be mostly cloudy, and showers are likely. The high will drop back down to 58 degrees.
Snow levels are expected to drop a bit too late Sunday night and early Monday. Snow may fall as low as 3,000 feet, bringing more accumulation to the pass roads. Forecasts are only calling for a few inches, but factor that in if you’re traveling late Sunday and into Monday morning.
Now, the extended forecast: Monday has a good chance of showers, and will remain cool with high temperatures in the upper 50s. But forecast models are starting to come into better agreement that a ridge building over the Pacific will bring clear skies and warmer temperatures into next week. Will Portland see 70 degrees on Tuesday? It’s possible! An even better chance of reaching 70 shows up Wednesday. Portland hasn’t seen a 70-degree day in 182 days. It’s about time.
