The Story Behind The Midori Sour
The Midori Sour has seen the highs and lows of the popularity scale — from the star ingredient’s successful debut at Studio 54 in 1978, to the cocktail being described as a “trashy disco drink” by The New York Times in 2017. Today it is making a comeback, as mixologists develop innovative combinations that explore the depths of Midori, a bright green, melon-flavored liqueur.
The secret to making the perfect Midori Sour is using freshly squeezed citrus juice, as Midori’s sweetness is tamed by the acidity. Soda water gives the drink a clean, fresh finish, while an optional pour of top-shelf vodka takes the booze factor up a notch.
