A thief who broke into a Portland Fire Bureau SUV parked on a residential street stole $10,000 worth of firefighting equipment, according to a news release from the bureau Saturday.
The break-in happened sometime Friday night or Saturday morning, near Southeast Division Street and 45th Avenue in Portland, where a person or people smashed the back window of a red GMC Yukon driven by a Fire Bureau battalion chief and stole a beige fire jacket with orange neon stripes and a backpack-like self contained breathing apparatus that firefighters wear on the job.
The bureau is asking the public to keep an eye out for the coat and breathing tank, which are together worth $10,000.
Anyone who sees the equipment is asked to call the Portland Fire non-emergency dispatch line at (503) 823-3333.
