If you have heard of Sauternes, the famous region of Bordeaux that makes some of the most age-worthy wine in the world, then you need to meet Tokaj (Toh-kah-ee), the Hungarian version. These dessert wines primarily come from the native Furmint grape (along with a shortlist of other native varieties) and have been in production since… well, no one knows. Drinking this wine is sipping history. It has an earthy honeycomb vibe with slight citrus notes. The natural acidity is bright leading to a slightly bitter finish. With some local cheeses and honey-based pastries this wine is ugh-good.
