A Washington County sheriff’s deputy and two passengers in a separate car who were injured in an April crash that killed two Southridge High School students are all out of the hospital.
Deputy Mike Trotter was moved Tuesday to a nearby rehabilitation center after 41 days in Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The full extent of his injuries were never released.
“Mike still has a long road to recovery but this is a huge step forward,” his wife, Heather Trotter, said in a statement.
James Thompson and Sky Korbut, both 15, were sent home from OHSU Hospital on May 9 and 14 respectively. They also are Southridge students.
Thompson suffered severe lacerations, internal organ damage and broken ribs, according to his parents’ GoFundMe page. KPTV reported that Korbut underwent five surgeries, including one emergency surgery, for severe intestinal and spinal injuries.
They were riding in a silver Nissan Altima that investigators said ran a red light and hit the deputy’s car at Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway and Murray Boulevard.
Two other students in the car, Matthew Amaya, 17, and Juan Pacheco Aguilera, 16, died in the crash.
The driver, 18-year-old Xavier Danzel Rodriguez, was indicted on 12 charges including first-degree manslaughter. He was arrested after being released from the hospital on May 27, Beaverton police said. Rodriguez also attended Southridge.
Rodriguez’s next court appearance is June 17.
