A wildfire in Washington state across the Columbia River from Hood River has consumed at least 75 acres and continues to grow Sunday, prompting evacuations.
Homes along Cook Underhill Road in Underwood, Washington are under Level 3 (go now) evacuation orders as the brush fire encroaches on the area, according to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.
The blaze, called the Tunnel 5 fire, is threatening more than 100 structures as of Sunday afternoon, according to department spokesperson Jessa Lewis.
The fire was reported just before 11:30 a.m. Multiple fire crews are on scene including air support. There is no estimated containment at this time.
“This is incredibly dry weather and we want people to be very careful,” Lewis said.
Lewis advised people to sign up for emergency alerts with the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office through a service called Hyper-Reach.
