Yuki Hashioka of Japan led the qualifying round of the men’s long jump at the World Athletics Championships on Friday with a distance of 26 feet, 10 inches. He entered the event ranked fourth in the world in the long jump, according to World Athletics’ website.
Hashioka finished in sixth place of the long jump at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Just behind Hashioka was Marquis Dendy of the United States, who took second with a distance of 26 feet, 9 1/4 inches.
Dendy, a former NCAA champion in the long jump with the University of Florida, reached that mark with his third and final attempt of the evening.
The final round of the men’s long jump is scheduled for Saturday evening.
