Visiting Fleet Week ships will begin arriving to dock along Tom McCall Waterfront park beginning Tuesday afternoon. The ships are part of the Rose Festival celebration, a tradition that dates back more than 80 years.
Commuters may see frequent and prolonged bridge lifts on the Broadway, Steel, and Burnside bridges. To avoid delays, commuters may want to use the Morrison and Hawthorne bridges during the following time periods:
- 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, June 6
- 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, June 7
- 2-6 p.m. (seven ships arrive this afternoon) Thursday, June 8.
- Commuters should also prepare for frequent lifts 7 a.m.-noon Monday, June 12 as the ships depart.
All times and dates are estimates and are subject to change. Realtime lift information is scheduled for announcement on the Portland Fire & Rescue Twitter account, @PDXFire, closer to the arrivals.
Portland is one of only a few U.S. Ports of Call that hosts courtesy visits from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and Royal Canadian Navy.
