Oregon DMV offices across the state halted all driver license and permit transactions Wednesday after an outage brought down the state agency’s camera system.
Michelle Godfrey, a spokesperson for the DMV, said the vendor that provides the state’s camera equipment is working to resolve the issue, but the agency is not sure what caused the outage or when it will be resolved. Godfrey said the DMV is still offering all other services.
The outage is not related to the recent data breach, Godfrey said. The Oregon DMV discovered in early June that an estimated 3.5 million driver licenses and identifications — about 90% of Oregon’s files — were compromised in a hack of a different third-party vendor. That hack also affected dozens of other businesses and government agencies.
